The exhibition came about through the Elliott family’s connection to the Dartmouth Cultural Center. Lisa Elliott, a textile artist and Willoughby’s widow, teaches weaving at the center, and she asked President Jill Law if the center would be interested in hosting an exhibition of his work. The pieces in the exhibition are drawn from Lisa’s private collection of Willoughby’s work. “I went to her house to curate what I wanted… and I was blown away,” said Law.
